NORTHERN TRUST INVITES PUBLIC TO VIEW AND DISCUSS REGENERATION PLANS AT EXHIBITION FOR FORMER PONTINS HOLIDAY CENTRE AT HEMSBY

31st January 2018

The former Pontins site at Hemsby was closed in 2008 and subsequently marketed for sale by one of the UK’s leading leisure agents Savills. Over the past few years we have spoken to a number of potential investors / developers who have presented proposals for a variety of residential / tourism / social needs housing uses. Unfortunately, none of these ideas came to fruition.

In 2015 an outline planning application was submitted for a mixed use development, comprising up to 200 dwellings and community / commercial facilities which included the potential for small scale retail units with associated public open space and landscaping. This application was recommended for approval but the planning committee resolved to refuse permission, albeit no decision notice has been issued.

We are currently looking into the possibility of a different mixed use redevelopment including residential new build and conversion and caravan pitches. A draft masterplan showing how this combination of uses could be laid out will be part of the exhibition and on which we invite local people to comment. This exhibition provides another opportunity for local people to become involved in resolving the ongoing problems with this site and realise a vital regeneration opportunity for Hemsby.

Northern Trust is committed to working closely with the local authority, members of the public and other key stakeholders in bringing forward the regeneration of the site for the benefit of the local economy and appearance of the area.
